The InOUT project tackles two critical challenges in creating sustainable, healthy urban environments: energy efficiency and indoor air quality.

Energy efficient, healthy, and comfortable indoor spaces

Buildings are the largest consumers of energy in cities and indoor air can be two to four times more polluted than outdoor air.

The InOUT approach combines indoor and outdoor air quality data with AI modelling to anticipate building needs, optimising heating, ventilation, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems to both improve energy efficiency and deliver healthier indoor environments.

Lobelia.Air. High resolution street-level air quality monitoring.

Lobelia.Air brings the outdoor air quality dimension into InsideOUT, linking conditions inside buildings with the conditions in the streets surrounding the building.

By integrating diverse data sources of key outdoor pollutants such as NO₂ and PM₁₀ into an advanced atmospheric dispersion model, Lobelia.Air fills gaps in urban air quality monitoring, offering street-level, real-time information and forecasts up to 48 hours ahead.

Satellite based information
Traffic and population density data
Meteorological data and in-situ sensors
Complete indoor air monitoring

Indoor data is provided by Domestic Data Streamers, whose digital platform enables continuous monitoring and visualisation of building occupancy and over 10 indoor air pollutants, supporting comprehensive analysis of air quality.

Digital twins and AI models

Digital twins developed in the project are then used to represent typical building behaviour and are updated in real time with indoor and outdoor monitored data, allowing heating, ventilation and air conditioning strategies to be tested and optimised before deployment.

Accelerating the green transition

InOUT will provide a comprehensive environmental and energy management solution for buildings that drives efficiency and slashes energy demand while elevating indoor health and comfort.

The project concept accelerates the green transition, advances the digitisation of energy systems, and actively contributes to EU and global sustainability goals.

Science and society connections

InOUT is co-organised by Clúster Digital, Lobelia, Domestic Data Streamers, Intemic and the Clúster de l’Energia Eficient de Catalunya.

Project funded by the Spanish Ministry of Industry and Tourism under the programme supporting Innovative Business Groups (AEIs), aimed at enhancing the competitiveness of Spanish industry.
